Message Oh man....my pc died while i typed a really good response...
...it's lucky i'm not armed. : )

Sounds biased but the Z's stats stayed fairly static compared
to some other cars out there. There were supras and RX7s
that magically ran 0-60 in 4.4 seconds and whatnot only
to slow down to 5.5 in the next test.

Nissan isn't going after JUST the Z32 owners. It has a whole new generation to impress(which you mention, follow that guy, below) as well as the people who grew up with the Z32, Z31, etc etc. I still have to refer to the price difference for now in comparing a 50k vette or 60-80k viper to the 26+k 350Z. All in all, b/c they have to make it affordable.

Vettes aren't quite $50k. Anyway...is Nissan building a
Miata or a world class sports car? If they want the former
then just shorten the Silvia, chop the top and send a SR20DET
powered roadster over to tear up the S2000s. Think about
it. 245hp with a reasonable torque curve and light
weight. Eat it S2000.

If they want to build brand recognition then a car that can't
compete with a Vette or 911, even at a discount price, is
not going to cut it. What would the commercial say? "The
new Z car from nissan...faster than a mustant....wait...it's
not....faster than a 91...no......it's faster than your
wife's Accord!"

I have not seen another car out there right now with a carbon fiber driveshaft.

LOL.....yeah....that makes it go MUCH faster. CF driveshaft
isn't revolutionary. It's an attempt to extract more power
out of a powerplant that is already tapped. Ever see the
power gains from modding a S2000? They're not very goood,
and that's because Honda tapped the engine in stock form.

but right now the only car running a 14.0 in the 20k range is the WRX, but it still needs a few things to run that.

And the WRX is a car my Z completely obliterated with no
mods. It also walked away from a S2000. Both of these
cars are supposedly fast.

If I were Nissan and wanting to revitalize my cutting edge
and performance oriented image I'd do the following.

-Silvias....bring silvias. A freaking pocket rocket that
is dirt cheap, handles well, and is legitimately fast.

-R34s with all the gimmicks. The magazine press alone will
sell them.....at premium prices. Also brings a successful
car that can be run in current racing series in america.

-Revive the Pulsar in its later iterations. Small turbo
compact car.....maybe there's a market....or maybe they
all want to drive 17 second civics. remember that the
latest silvia wasn't that freaky thing we had here in the
US.

-Screw the bargain priced Z that can't hope to keep up
with a Vette on an onramp. Make one that tears it apart
and leaves it crying. Build it for a little less than a
Vette. The people who can't afford it will buy Silvias.
take note that for decades Chevy sold lots of Vettes and
Z28s side by side.....even tho the SS isn't much slower than
a C5 and is 1/2 price.

-get back into racing.....IRL sucks....find a way to get
some cars into some racing series that americans can see.
it has helped audi. Rally would be neat too....the EVO
is going to sell like mad.

-quit feeding your designers crack. wtf was that last
skyline thing i saw? holy hell...looks like a console tv
my parents once owned.

brutal speed in every direction and a unique and beautiful
body design. that's what the Z needs. i'm so sick of
generic slow cars (read...Audi TT, RSX, SC430, 350Z)

nissan has the engines it needs to dominate the market, and
its current crop of japan only cars could sell here if they
weren't so stupid and would put effort into bringing them
here. the big car magazines repeatedly drive these cars
and say "wow...i wish we had them in america" ....the tuner
mags are like "wow....i wish we didn't have to import the
sr20det for my 240SX"

in 1990 the Z was shown in a commercial flashing its lights
to tell a Porsche to get the hell out of the way. If that
was today the Porsche owner would stick his hand out the
window, offer a single finger salute and disappear leavign
the 350Z owner to wish he had 100hp more.

That's sad.
